Anderson Retail Consultants Ltd, Belfast
In 2009 the owner of this pharmacy applied for a contract in a 230sq m unit in new health centre development near Bingley. This was to be the first pharmacy in the area, but with a side entrance off the main road and no passing trade, and a gradual move by local GPs into the new premises, there were challenges! The solution adopted was to create a ‘destination' pharmacy with high visual impact, to ensure that local villagers looked tno further when they had a prescription.
A ‘forward' dispensing model was adopted with customers being handled at two private service points, and a private rear dispensary for larger items and nursing homes. The dispensing process is supported by a Consis B3 robot. The sales area provides plenty of space for browsing, seating, a play area and a disabled friendly customer toilet. There is a glazed consultation room adjacent to the dispensary and a larger treatment room. There are two separate areas in the pharmacy for posters and leaflets
Braun Publishing has just released a book on the best pharmacy designs in the world, and this pharmacy is among those that are featured.
