What the papers say: obesity in pregnancy and the effect of alcohol on arthritis

Obesity during pregnancy has reached epidemic levels, according to the BBC today.

The Beeb and The Daily Telegraph also report that alcohol can reduce the severity of arthritis.

The Independent has one health news story today on the obesity epidemic that is putting unborn children at risk.

And The Guardian and The Daily Telegraph report that mothers can lower the risk of problems by losing weight before any subsequent pregnancy.

A gel that can help decayed teeth to grow back could signal an end for fillings, The Daily Telegraph also reports.

The broadsheet says too that a senior GP has urged other doctors to boycott the online medical records system by refusing to upload their patients' details.

Babies born even slightly prematurely are at greater risk of breathing problems as infants, the paper says. And it warns “eccentrics” could be diagnosed with mental health disorders under planned changes to diagnostic guidelines

The Daily Telegraph also reports on a £50m government scheme that will provide treatments for cancer sufferers denied expensive drugs on the NHS.
