Without question, it has been the toughest awards competition to date. The quality of entries has been higher than ever and coming as it does against a backdrop of the toughest economic climate in recent history, the shortlist is a terrific indictment of the innovation, creativity and enthusiasm that community pharmacists and their teams bring to the table. With 12 categories covering the people and services in our sector, the C+D Awards are a showcase of the very best of community pharmacy. Four expert judges were allocated to each category and they had to mark the entries independently against a specific set of criteria. It's not enough that you're providing a great service or that you're a brilliant pharmacist or technician or assistant or pre-reg, you have to show how you're making a difference to your business, your patients, and the wider health team. And it's great to see that just as in real life where community pharmacy has to justify its role to the NHS, individual practitioners are getting better at demonstrating the outcomes they deliver, as one judge reflected: "It was a difficult choice… so many entries had passion, enthusiasm and concrete benefits." So to the 62 pharmacists, teams, technicians, assistants and others below who have won a coveted place on the shortlist for the C+D Awards 2012 – congratulations! It's a brilliant achievement and you should be rightly proud of getting this far. The tickets for next month's glittering awards dinner will be arriving through your letterboxes soon and it promises to be a spectacular evening. With 600 guests from pharmacy, industry and the government gathering to celebrate the winners, it's the place to be if you want to network with those at the cutting edge of pharmacy practice.
So put the date and venue for the Awards dinner in your diary – May 29 at The Brewery in London – book your tickets, get your outfit ready, and help us celebrate as we unveil the 12 winners of this year's C+D Awards.
