Who looks after the PIP code and why is there a PIP Code licence fee as part of my subscription package?
The PIP code is a unique coding system designed to allow the identification and efficient ordering of products supplied by UK pharmacies. It is used by the majority of UK pharmacies through their dispensary systems.
The PIP code is managed on behalf of the industry by UBM Medica, the publishers of Chemist+Druggist, with input from the NPA. It is C+D which pays for the database that holds the code and for the staff who input and maintain information on the 80,000+ products in the file and who process some 26,000 changes each year. It is also C+D which arranges the distribution of the PIP code via electronic files (sent each week to computer system suppliers and wholesalers), via the Monthly Price List, weekly updates (sent to C+D subscribers) and the C+D Data website.
The PIP Code licence fee enables C+D to provide this service to UK pharmacies.
I already pay my system supplier for data.
The licence cost is only for the use of the PIP code. All other data such as charges for EPOS data are dealt with separately through your EPOS supplier and cover the full data, description, categorisation, price etc.
The PIP Code is owned by UBM Medica/NPA. The data associated with the PIP Code is dealt with separately by the various suppliers (systems supplier, EPOS, dispensary systems etc) as they insert additional information/data. The charges for this is out of our control and is not related to PIP code licence in the subscription.
How can I change my subscription package?
Changing your package is simple and can be done by contacting us.
When can I upgrade?
You may upgrade your package at the point of renewal or mid way through your current subscription. You can do this by contacting us.
How do I pay for the subscription package?
The subscription packages can be paid by credit card, invoice or Direct Debit.
Switch or opting to use Direct Debit option includes a discount. Direct Debit gives you greater control over your money. You can pay yearly or quarterly spreading the cost over the whole year. To switch your payment options then please contact us.
What is the VAT for?
The licence fee attracts VAT.
Can I claim the VAT back?
Yes. As a business you are able to claim VAT on purchases. Please visit HMRC website for more information.
I'm not getting a service/product that is part of my subscription package. What do I do?
Please check your new subscription package to find out what is included. If you wish to upgrade your subscription package then please contact us.
Can I have more than one subscription package?
Yes
Can I cancel or down grade my subscription to a lower level subscription package?
You may only cancel or down grade you subscription at the time of renewal.
