According to the Financial times, Teva sold in excess of 700,000 packs in a single day! This would suggest that Pfizer potentially lost ITRO £20m in that one day! I'm not surprised that Pfizer are fighting as strongly as they are & legally they are probably in the right. However, I did find the letter sent to all pharmacists with regard to the issue extremely patronising. In it, they confirm the legal position - no problem with that, but they also go on to tell us how much they have done to help pharmacy. Errr, no! If pharmacy felt that Pfizer were the good guys in all this, then I am sure Teva would not have sold as much as they did. Pfizer & DTP was a turning point. A turning point which has snowballed & seriously harmed pharmacy and the effcicient delivery of patient care in community pharmacy. Let's all be honest, yes Pfizer is right to defend their patent, but please, lets not pretend its for the good of pharmacy and affordable healthcare.

If you define good as reducing purchase discount from 12% to 7% and forcing independents to lose irate customers who cant understand why a prescription issuing a three month supply means they will have to wait until the next month to complete the owing balance unless Pfizer send in an 'honesty checking' team to audit you then yes they have helped a lot
but thanks for the stationary - all those free stickers make dispensing at a loss seem almost palatable
