Pharmacy’s lack of pride

The celebrations over the Jubilee weekend got me thinking, writes Thorrun Govind, maybe we should take a leaf out the history books when it comes to the...

do you not think the 28k figure is actually very good when compared to membership rates for the professional bodies of GPs (RCGP) and nurses (RCN), which are lower than the RPS figure and are bodies with a much much longer history!?

The RCGP was founded in 1952, the RCN in 1916 and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain was founded in 1841 although its latest incarnation was admittedly founded only recently.

due to a computer glitch on their website, my payment of society fees did not go through even entered my switch card and security number and pressed enter. i was removed from the register. i tried to explain this to them, and falsely believed in their humanity. pay them 1000 pounds to go back on the register or dont work again as a pharmacist (what a nice choice). i think they have had enough of my hard earned money already.

good luck to the society

I do not know what planet this person is on? As an old poof working as a pharmacist our pride in our job should be what we do day to day and being able to diversify. Having been given a hearing aid and on the odd day not replacing the batteries which leads to all sorts of carry on circumstances anbesol instead of anusol, we need to be not too harsh on ourselves and carry on regardless.

I remember while in a tent in Iraq throwing £100,000 worth of drugs away as we withdrew from Basra and how local hospitals could have benifited. There again whose to say they did n't.....X

Dear Michael,

I think you are confusing the GPHC with the RPS , there is no such condition of paying £1000, it is a voluntary membership so you would not be penalised.

RPS is now open to non-pharmacist. I gave them a 1 year chance and thought I got ZERO value for money. Hence, won't join until they do something worthy.

Would rather watch some football.

i too am surprised about the £1000, that's not what I was aware about. I have stayed with them and am getting plenty of help, info and advice for my money. Frustratingly some colleagues are asking me to pass on this info!!
