taking away the 20% target payment band in 2012 to 'incentivise' will, in my opinion do the opposite. Independents not reaching their 40% targets may drop the service in favour of other more reliable income streams, thus decreasing its chances of success.
I think they should reverse this decision

Totally agree with the comments by Mr Patel. How sill adding a complicated payment structure to NMS payments make pharmacy want to do them any more than they have been able to do MURs? Surely its the fact that we have our day job to do i.e. the effective supply of medicines which creates that barrier??

Adding in percentage markers and changing targets only add's to the confusion for what is an already a poorly constructed and delivered service.

Just my own humble opinion.

i have been struggling to understand why on the consent for murs and nms there is mention of a payment.it will do us no good in the eyes of the public that we are only carrying out these services for money.we all have worked hard to rid ourselves the shop with the till.now we are progressing backwards.

Do you think we may have been set up to fail with this service?

Completely agree with Mr. Patel and other posters. No body is addressing the fundamental question that lies within the definition of the service. New Medicine Service -- supposed to be offered to people starting a medicine for the first time (in the given categories). How can you assume (target) how many people will come to your pharmacy with a script for a new medicine ??? So, in effect, if you have agreed to provide NMS, then you must provide it to all the eligible patients irrespective of the script turnover. If you don't then it is discrimination and not a service aimed at patient care.

I completely agree and support the fact that this service will have a better impact when the payment system is changed over to each completed NMS without setting a target. Will the NHS have any targets for the GPs or the Hospitals beyond which figure they will stop treating patients ??? We definitely need an urgent intervention in the NMS service payments or else there will be pharmacists looking to stick to the targeted numbers, leading to many eligible patients not getting the benefit. Or, there will be pharmacies/ pharmacists providing the service to each and every eligible patient and not getting re-imursed for all the effort and resources used.

Mr Patel is quite right the whole system is mind boggling. I do not think pharmacy has been set up to fail, but like everything else that the government proposes it lacks depth, thorough planning and it has already done one U turn. on NMS Very similar to the U turn on NHS reform, charity taxation.....and so on..
