Will C&D publish the full list of their findings?
Being cynical - I wonder how many of those not responding spent much more than Berkshire!

Thanks for your comment - we've amended this story to include a full spreadsheet of results at the end of the article, which details all the PCTs who said spend information was not available.

Kind regards,

Emma

Whilst the headline figures look shocking, this has to be taken into context with the number of employees. PCTs are large and complex organisations. If you compare the actual spend per employee it will probably be less than £20 per annum per employee. I bet this is significantly less than a lot of organisations of a similar size

Interesting commentary. I work for a PCT and all non core training was scrapped. I certainly have not been a beneficiary of any external training or lavish events. I am paying for my own post grad course. I don't expect anything from them either.

I think we need to separate training and motivation. Many organisations head straight for the 'off site' site meeting or 'congratulatory back slapping' before they address the basics.
Keeping staff informed, congratulating them, both verbally, and in writing, for a job well done. The majority of motivators, which cost nothing, are frequently skipped in search of a one off headline event.
I'll be giving a talk on motivation on Monday morning at the Pharmacy Show, come along.

Well the tax payer spends millions on the supply model of pharmaceticals in community pharmacy, so keep it in perspective

I agree with Alan, what is the cost per employeee?

Perhaps C&D could inform the readership what they have spent on similar events in the past year.
My employer has just spent a similar amount on a motivational evening, dinner & NMS discussion.
