A number of branded products continue to be unavailable, a px copy has to be supplied to obtain stock, and even then one manufacturer requested doctors name and phone number , we refused as in the recent past one company did phone the surgery to find out about prescribing patterns, there is stress involved everytime in ordering items and telling patients that it will be available in a day or so, why dont the manufacturers write to all the doctors that their products are in short supply, so that the doctors can write alternatives,

How about a very public "Name & Shame" campaign?

We all know that some Pharma companies are far worse than others for making things as difficult as possible to obtain their products. Not going to be a full solution to this particular problem but it may help and it would also let the public know the difficulties we are facing daily.

Fantastic idea - could have 2 web pages - 1 for manufacturers who make ridiculous, unnecessary admin burdens on particular pharmacists, and the other for pharmacists/pharmacies which have aggregated known short supply products - most likely for export

The 2nd will never happen as allegedly the PSNC has told manufacturers and the large wholesalers not to distinguish between traders and non-traders when letting them have stock! There has to be a fair playing field don't you know.

just because they are treated "fairly" by manufacturers, doesnt mean they shouldnt or couldnt be named to industry, colleagues and more importantly patients - could be a joint C&D/Daily Mail/Patient association website!

Taking europe as a whole there is no shortage---if a drug is exported from the UK then there must be an excess of drug in another EC country/ries. The manufacturers can simply redirect the excess to the UK. The manufacturers have a serious question to answer--are they creating an artificial market to hinder the free movement of products within the EC?. I am glad that finally Sue Sharpe and her organization have woken up but again it is too late and too little.Until exporting between EC countries is made illegal by the EC-it is not at the moment as far as i am aware-- responsibility for all shortages must be laid at the feet of the manufacturers.
I have no vested interest as my company is a non-exporter but if you can make a profit by exporting i would advise you to carry on with a very clear conscience .
