I would like to see pharmacists recommending quality OTC
That are only available from pharmacies
With a profit on return of 47% POR .
Tv advertised products with 20-25% profit margins are eroding
OTC %POR and are being paid for by struggling independents .
Pharmacists are probably the only professionals that can only get their services paid by selling to the patient . I qualified in 83 back in the 80s many of us effectively blacklisted consumer sales of products advised on tv that had low margins & were available from a non pharmacy outlet meant that if a consumer came in and asked for it they were recommended a substitute with a higher profit margin & a lower retail price everybody was happy !
Effectively we piggy backed the advertising !
Any one remember the tv advertising in 1989 for digital thermometers at a1 we imported an alternative brand my record number of orders to independent pharmacies of 38 orders & 234 personal phone calls is still a company record !
There is a massive opportunity if pharmacists worked together to support smaller manufacturers with alternative brands are not Tv advertised that gave the community pharmacist 47% POR on return . Food for thought ? Regards Gary Lewis MRPharmS /founder A1 Pharmaceuticals plc
