Hydromol goes SLS free

Hydromol ointment has been reformulated to remove sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS), after research published earlier this year showed SLS may damage the skin barrier, thus worsening skin irritation and atopic eczema.
The change to the ointment – which is for eczema, psoriasis and other dry skin conditions – sees the emulsifying wax formerly used in the product replaced with cetomacrogol emulsifying wax.
A spokesperson for Hydromol said the ointment was 25 per cent cheaper than its equivalent competitor, and that removing SLS from the ointment offered cost advantages to PCTs as well as formulation advantages to patients.
The ointment was experiencing "double-digit growth, which is accelerating quickly", they added.
Hydromol ointment is available in 125g, 500g and 1kg tubs.
