good, something needs to be done ASAP, the amount of cowboys pharmacists i've worked with has scared the hell out of me,

what can we do if things are not being done according to British standards ? Is there a hotline number we can call, one of my friends trainee dispenser has just been depromoted to a checkout assistant because the pharmacist (non british trained - EU) made too many errors !

Firstly,I think you should tame your language and not call your fellow pharmacists "cowboys"
Clearly you are inexperienced ,as yet, and will slowly learn.
Have you actually spoken directly to the owner where you identified a problem?
Being a locum, you fail to understand the business pressures involved and not everyone can afford state of the art premises as so often highlighted in our various journals.
You have to earn it before you can spend it!!

I am all for maintaining standards and ensuring the delivery in terms of pharmaceutical advice and products are of the highest standard. However where will these inspections fit in with CQC. I understand dentists have already been targeted some have had to close, now GPs are under the spotlight. In Pulse magazine CQC actually admit to targeting small single handed GP's where the practice manager is related to the GP, as being singled out for a visit because the data they submit may not be as robust dare I say honest.

What will happen wheen pharmacy falls under the CQC spotlight, how many independents will be forced to shape up or ship out.

CQC is the regulator for most - but not for pharmacy. Our (brand new) regulator is GPhC - I cannot see that changing in the short term.

CQC have already been through at least 3 variations in the last 7 years or so. I suspect it is likely that CQC will change again as a regulator it is already overwhelmed with the workload its inspectors have. I doubt there is appetite for a further extension of its role.
