Another aspect of this story is that even if the participant themselves were fantastic at their role within the superstore, they have absolutely zero chance of having that job converted into an actual job. Seems somewhat unfair on people who may generally just be in a bit of bad luck at the moment. Despite the media-induced opinion, people on the whole do actually want to work to earn their money.

Forced work in this fashion with a threat of discountenance with what could be their only way of surviving without starving is nothing less then slave labour. Just do the math using this articles numbers. Thirty hours a week for £50 or so benefit...that translates into about £1.70 an hour rounded up to the nearest 10 pence.

If anyone thinks forcing this on anyone is a good idea is nothing less than sub-human.
It's immoral. It's wrong.
End of discussion.

There is predicted to be an oversupply of Pharmacy graduates over the next few years.
I wonder how long before some graduates have to take unpaid "works experience" with a multiple before being considered for a pre-reg place or full time employment?

The local University finds work experience for it's under graduates, with work books and assessments from real pharmacists, this is voluntary, what would your stance be now.
It gives vital experience to young trainee pharmacists, sometimes their first experience in a pharmacy. The students are expected to do 10 days experience over 4 years!

Hi David,

I think works experience in a pharmacy is great for undergrads who can gain a lot from it as you say.

The situation I was suggesting was in the not too distant future where with more Universities offering Pharmacy degrees there will be more graduates than there are job vacancies. I think it would be naive to think that certain multiples would not exploit this situation one way or another.

Clive

This is a hot chestnut and there have been many such cheap labour schemes duing periods of austerity like the 70's and 80's YTS, YOP, and now this same old programme rehashed and dressed up in new clothing with a new handle.

As for over production of pharmacy garduates and EU pharmacists will make an impact on employment prospects too. However, it has got me thinking about diversifying my skills and that's what we all need to think about especially if you work for a PCT, but again that's life!

Good luck folks pharmacists wages £10.00 an hour on the cards! By the way how is the cab driving profession doing these days....over subscribed...oh..!
