Alliance Healthcare cyclists raise £60,000 for cancer charity

Eight sensor managers from Alliance Healthcare and Alliance Boots have raised more than £60,000 for cancer charity European Organisation for the Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) by completing a non-stop ride from John O'Groats to Land's End.

The cyclists took 79 hors ad 40minutes to complete their monumental ride and the money raised will go towards the establishment of Europe's first pan-European Biobank to store and analyse tumour samples.

The Biobank will enable scientists to build up a long-term picture of how cancers grow and the individual genes that are associated with them. This information will then help experts decide which therapy is going to be of most benefit to individual patients.

Sir Christopher Mallaby, Chairman, EORTC Charitable Trust said: "I want to thank the [Alliance cyclists] for their superb physical effort and their success in raising funds for the EORTC Biobank. My warmest thanks to all at Alliance Healthcare who managed the happy event at Exeter on Saturday."
