AAH backs Diabetes Awareness Week with patient screening

AAH Pharmaceuticals offered free diabetes screening as part of Diabetes Awareness Week last week.

AAH customers helped members of the public to identify the signs and symptoms and offered checks to see if they have, or could have the onset of Type 2 diabetes.

AAH worked with Diabetes UK to promote the checks, which included support information on foot care for diabetics as well as Diabetes UK's 15 essential health checks and 10 steps to healthy feet leaflets.

AAH head of marketing services said Ajit Malhi: "If just one person benefits from an early intervention check then we can be satisfied that we are supporting our customers in their bid to ease these problems while helping to improve the health of their patients."

An estimated 850,000 people live with undiagnosed diabetes in the UK and recent reports suggest that fewer than ten per cent of diabetes patients are offered the whole series of tests in some areas of England, AAH says that pharmacy is ideally placed to help.
