One of the most common drug-related causes of hospital admissions is bleeding caused by inappropriate anticoagulation. Many patients may be confused by the advice that has been given and, as initially there may be no symptoms as a result of non-compliance, patients often find it harder to adhere to treatment, causing haemorrhage, stroke or thrombosis. |
|
The new medicine service (NMS) will provide support to people newly prescribed a medicine by helping them to improve their medication adherence. This should lead to a reduction in medicines wastage, reduce medicines-related hospital admissions and improve quality of life for patients. |

How will I benefit?
This four module NMS Toolkit will provide you with all the information you need to complete the ‘self-assessment of readiness' that must be submitted before you can offer the New Medicine Service.
Properly completing the course means you can download a completed self-assessment certificate which you only need to sign and date…
In addition, each module comes with its own CPD log sheet, enabling you to use it as a CPD entry in your ‘Plan and Record' portfolio at uptodate.org.uk.
What will I learn?
The four modules in the NMS Toolkit cover:
· Module 1: An introduction to the NMS, outlining the purpose of the service and its aims and outcomes
· Module 2: The service specification and how to deliver the NMS effectively
· Module 3: A five point guide to getting the most out of NMS consultations – face-to-face and over the phone
· Module 4: Essential counselling points for the four targeted therapy areas for the NMS
To complete the assessment for each module online go to My CPD. Find NMS Toolkit in your course list and click on 'View Exams'. Use the menu options on the Exam page to download your CPD logsheet, and print or e-mail a certificate when you have completed the assessment.
