Podcast: How can pharmacy teams make the best use of social media?
Community pharmacist Thorrun Govind shares her advice on how to use social media in a positive way to promote pharmacy services
C+D’s clinical and custom content editor Naimah Callachand spoke to Thorrun Govind, a community pharmacist based in north-west England, about how pharmacy teams can use social media platforms positively, and what they should consider before posting from their own personal accounts.
During the pandemic, social media platforms have not only been used to promote public health, especially with regards to the uptake of COVID-19 vaccinations, but has also allowed pharmacy teams to share best practice on the delivery of COVID-19 vaccinations and other pharmacy services, says Ms Govind.
A way to connect
Ms Govind says social media is also “a great way of connecting with other people” in a profession that sometimes can feel quite “isolating”.
However, she emphasises the importance of “maintaining proper professional boundaries” when using social media, and warns that people should “raise [issues] through the right channels”, because negative social media engagement can not only reflect badly on the individual posting but also on the profession itself.
