Man jailed for £500k illegal erectile dysfunction drug stash
A Berkshire man has been jailed for illegally importing more than 700,000 doses of erectile dysfunction drugs.
Atilla Fodor, 38, of Datchet, Slough sold more than 451,000 doses of the unlicensed medicines at a profit of over £27,000, according to evidence on his computer found by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, it announced yesterday (August 24).
The medicines watchdog's raid on Mr Fodor's property also uncovered a further 267,000 doses of the drugs in a garden shed, with an estimated value of over half a million pounds, it added.
Mr Fodor was sentenced to 10 months in prison at Reading Crown Court on Tuesday (August 23).
MHRA head of enforcement Alastair Jeffrey warned that selling unlicensed medicines poses a serious health risk because they may contain impurities or incorrect ingredients. "There is no way of knowing if they are manufactured to acceptable standards of quality and safety," he said.
Mr Jeffrey vowed that the MHRA will "continue to track down and prosecute...criminals involved in the illegal supply of medical products".
