How the companies were ranked

C+D teamed up with independent analyst Best Companies Group (BCG) to identify the best places to work in community pharmacy. BCG has more than a decade of experience in identifying workplace excellence across a variety of sectors – including insurance, law and broadcasting – and in several countries, including the UK, Canada and the US.

C+D invited companies in the UK to participate in the programme free of charge;* the number of employees for eligibility was set by BCG to ensure the robustness of the analysis.

The analysis programme consisted of two parts:

1. An employer questionnaire detailing policies, practices, benefits and demographics

2. An employee survey covering leadership and planning, culture and communications, role satisfaction, working environment, relationships with managers, training and development, and pay and benefits.

BCG combined and analysed responses, determined whether they met the criteria for being named one of the best places to work in the sector, and ranked the companies according to the resulting data sets. Five employers came through to meet the BCG’s employee excellence benchmark and be crowned one of the C+D Best Places to Work in Community Pharmacy 2015.

*Participating employers had the option to purchase a confidential report of their employee survey benchmarked against other participants
