Asthma is a chronic inflammatory respiratory condition that can have many different causes and triggers. The main presentation of asthma is variable airflow obstruction and one or more of the following: cough; wheeze; chest tightness; and shortness of breath.(1) The symptoms vary in intensity and presentation, and acute asthma exacerbations may even be life-threatening.
