Being overweight or obese is classified using the body mass index (BMI) tool. BMI is calculated taking into account a patient’s weight (in kg) and height (in m2), to calculate a value that is then categorised into four classifications:(1)

  • underweight (BMI below 18kg/m2)
  • healthy weight (BMI between 18.5 and 24.9kg/m2)
  • overweight (BMI
