Voltarol launches £2m TV campaign

Novartis has launched a £2.2m television advertising campaign to promote its Voltarol 12-hour pain relief gel.

The advertisements launched last month and will run until December to promote the 12-hour Emulgel 2.32 per cent gel. They will appear on ITV, Channel 5, Sky, Channel 4 and its sister channels. The campaign could drive consumer footfall into pharmacies, a Novartis spokesperson said.

Novartis launched the formulation in the spring, as part of its Voltarol pain relief range. The gel is designed to provide 12-hour pain relief when applied in the morning and evening, it said, and can be used as an alternative to oral pain medication.

It contains a penetration enhancer, which helps concentrate the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug diclofenac onto the site of the pain. A 30g gel retails at £6.99 and the 50g retails at £9.99.
