£10 million drug cancer fund proposed for Scotland

The Scottish Conservative party has announced that if elected this year, it would be committed to setting up a £10 million Scottish cancer drugs fund. The proposal mirrors action taken by the UK government to set up a £200 million fund to increase patient access to cancer drugs in England and Wales. The Scottish move comes ahead of the Scottish parliament elections in May, and follows revelations that there are 18 cancer drugs available to patients in England and Wales that are not available in Scotland."The action taken by the UK government in setting up a cancer drugs fund has been warmly received by cancer sufferers, their families and campaign groups in England and Wales. We believe it is time the Scottish government took similar action," shadow cabinet secretary for health and wellbeing Murdo Fraser said.
