Burglars remove CD cabinet from Bradford pharmacy

Thieves stole a controlled drugs cabinet containing methadone in an early morning break-in, a pharmacy manager has told C+D

Staff were “shocked” after burglars removed the controlled drugs cabinet from a Bradford pharmacy, C+D has learned.

Individuals broke into Imaan Pharmacy on Manchester Road in the early hours of Sunday morning (June 7) and “took the whole cupboard”, said pharmacy manager Amer Ahmed.

The burglars also broke the safe off the wall but left it in the pharmacy because they were unable to access the methadone, morphine and money inside, he told C+D on Wednesday (June 10).

West Yorkshire Police confirmed a “significant quantity of prescription drugs” - including methadone, morphine and diazepam - were taken by suspects who gained entry to the pharmacy at around 4am. Police believed the individuals left on foot and headed in the direction of nearby Wibsey Bank.

Mr Ahmed said the burglars left the pharmacy in a “mess”, but had not taken many other medicines. “We got back up and running [and] ordered a new CD cupboard straight away,” he said.

Mr Ahmed took over as pharmacy manager at the start of the month and said it was a “shock” to find it had been burgled on his first weekend. “I had just got brand new doors put in at the back and they smashed [them] down,” he said.

As a result of the incident, Mr Ahmed was installing new security shutters and more CCTV, he added.

Police said the stolen drugs could “prove harmful if taken without a prescription” and urged anyone with information to contact Bradford District CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
