Care Senna packs of 60 and 100 tablets reclassified as P medicine
Care Senna packs of 60 and 100 tablets have been reclassified as pharmacy-only (P) medicine while packs of 20 tablets, for adults, have remained as a GSL item.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency introduced new restrictions on over-the-counter sales of stimulant laxatives in August in a bid to reduce misuse of the products for weight loss.
Care Senna 7.5mg Tablets 12 Years Plus – available in packs of 60 and 100 – have been reclassified as a P medicine.
A 20-tablet pack of Care Senna 7.5mg Tablets Adults can be purchased as a general sales list (GSL) product by a patient aged 18 and over.
Care has added warnings on the patient information leaflet and the packaging saying the tablets “do not help with weight loss” and “overuse can be harmful”.
The Care Senna tablets are a herbal medicine contain senna for treating short-term relief of occasional constipation, the brand says.
