C+D gathers more reports for stock shortage campaign
Sort out stocksThe number of cases of supply problems and incidents of patient distress reported via C+D’s interactive tool has this week reached 129
Pharmacies across the UK continue to provide evidence of stock shortages, with 129 cases of supply problems and incidents of patient distress reported since C+D's interactive tool was launched in August. Examples in the past week include a child being sent back to a consultant for an alternative prescription and a pharmacy reporting severe harm to a patient because it could not get hold of a yellow fever vaccine.
C+D is building up a dossier of evidence to present to pharmacy minister Earl Howe after he called on pharmacists to prove stock shortages were harming patients. Take advantage of our resources by October 12 and we will take your evidence to the government.

● Dillons Pharmacy in Acton, London, reported severe harm to a patient because of an ongoing shortage of Stamaril.* It had the potential to put travellers at serious risk of contracting yellow fever, it said. ● Witterings Pharmacy in East Wittering, Sussex, reported two incidents on the same day – a patient suffered moderate harm when it could not get hold of the diarrhoea treatment loperamide and another young patient had to be sent back to a consultant when it could not get hold of the skin cream Trimovate. ● Simmons in Barnet, north London, reported having to spend three days trying to source the antidepressant Cymbalta when a patient ran out. The pharmacy eventually received the medication but the patient suffered moderate harm, it said. ● Weldricks Pharmacy in Doncaster, Yorkshire, was still waiting for a supply of the Crohn's disease medication Budenofalk when it reported the details to C+D's interactive tool. A patient had suffered low harm, it said.
