C+D to host Twitter chat on pharmacists in GP surgeries

Readers can debate plans to employ an “army” of pharmacists in practices, with sector and GP representatives on July 16

C+D will take to Twitter next month to gauge the sector’s views on moving pharmacists into GP practices.

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) and the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) called for an “army” of pharmacists to be employed in GP practices in March, and both organisations will join the C+D news team to debate the proposals on Twitter at 2pm on July 16.

Pharmacists can join the discussion and share their thoughts on the plans. They will also have the opportunity to submit questions directly to the RPS and the RCGP.

On Wednesday (June 23), RPS Scotland said it “fully supported” placing more pharmacists in GP surgeries as part of “multidisciplinary primary care teams”. The RPS’s Scottish pharmacy board said it had agreed this position at a meeting last week, in which members had “responded positively to the increased focus and opportunities for pharmacists working in patient-facing roles within GP practices”.

Last month, NHS England told C+D that it was considering RPS proposals to financially incentivise pharmacists to work in GP practices.

Do you agree that this is the right direction for pharmacy? Tell us your views by taking part in the live Twitter chat. You can join us www.twitter.com or via your Twitter app – search for #PharmsInGPs.
