The Colief Breathe Easy Patch is single use, easy to apply and contains a formulation of essential oils, including eucalyptus and peppermint, manufacturer Crosscare said.

Dawn Kelly, former health visitor and member of the Colief expert panel, said one of the main concerns of parents using essential oil products to ease decongestion is the risk of skin irritation.

“The Colief Breathe Easy Patch attaches to nightwear or bedding, minimising any risk,” she said.

The patch is suitable for use in children over the age of three, and retails at £5.95 for a pack of six.
