The multiples accused of linking pay and MUR performance for managers and locums have responded to the allegations made by an anonymous C+D reader.

Cohens, which has more than 160 pharmacies in the north-west of England and across the UK, told C+D it “values each and every one of our staff” and “prides itself” on the fact staff are able to raise any concerns they have with their line manager.

Zoe Serrant, operations manager and superintendent pharmacist at Cohens, said the multiple is "not aware" of any complaints being raised regarding the delivery of MURs.

Ms Serrant added that, in common with other multiples, Cohens incentivises staff and locums to ensure the service they provide “meets our high standards” and “delivers an important service to patients”.

Boots "committed" to employees

Meanwhile, Boots said it is “committed to supporting pharmacists”. While it would not comment on an individual case, it said that pay for pharmacists and managers is assessed “against a broad range of objectives”.

Boots added: “We strongly encourage any pharmacist who feels that their work is being compromised [to] report this to their line manager or chief pharmacist’s office.”
