Police have warned the public against buying stolen prescription drugs after packets of diazepam were taken from a Boots pharmacy in Cornwall.

Ten packets of the drug, containing 280 tablets in total, were taken from the pharmacy in Bay Tree Hill, Liskeard at around 6.30pm on Sunday (June 29), Devon and Cornwall Police said. Two men are thought to have gained entry to the store by smashing the front door, police said.

Sergeant Martin John said police were concerned that people had been offered the stolen drugs for sale and were conscious of the "real health threat" posed by taking the tablets without a prescription.

A 39-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of burglary shortly after the incident and released on bail until July 14, police said.

Boots UK told C+D that the pharmacy had been closed at the time of the burglary and no staff had been present. The pharmacy had opened as normal the next day, it said.

Cornwall and Devon Police urged witnesses or anyone who had been offered the drugs to call them on 101, quoting reference CR/085696/14, or speak to independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
