An Essex man who illegally sold erectile dysfunction drugs imported from India has been jailed for 16 months.

Fifty-seven year old Sundeep Amin of Abercorn Gardens, Romford rented “a number of storage facilities” across Essex and the Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) seized “several large quantities” of erectile dysfunction drugs that were en route to these facilities, including one haul at Heathrow airport worth £100,000, the medicines watchdog said.

Mr Amin pleaded guilty to 21 counts of importing, possessing and supplying unlicensed medicines over “several years” after MHRA officers seized nearly £900,000 of illegal medicines in total, it said.

Mr Amin – who had “several companies registered in his name” – also admitted to laundering money he made by illegally supplying the drugs, and to possessing a “large quantity” of the controlled drug phenazepam. He was sentenced on Friday (August 14) at Southwark Crown Court, the MHRA said.

He had “no medical qualifications” and therefore posed a “lethal” risk to the public, MHRA head of enforcement Alastair Jeffrey said.

“It is further proof that if you buy medication from an illicit source, you are handing over money to a criminal who has no regard for your wellbeing."
