‘Extremely inebriated’ burglar stuck in pharmacy rescued by police

A man had to call the police to his rescue after breaking into a Lancashire pharmacy and becoming stuck inside after ingesting “a large quantity of drugs”.

Scott Mckay, a 43-year-old man with no fixed abode, broke into a Geloo Brothers branch in Blackburn, Lancashire last week (April 15) and called the police at around 2am asking for help to get out of the pharmacy, Blackburn and Darwen Police said in a statement.

Mr Mckay was arrested for burglary and sentenced to 26 weeks in prison, the police said.

“Extremely inebriated”

Mr Mckay had “consumed a large quantity of drugs from the pharmacy and was extremely inebriated as a result”, according to Blackburn and Darwen Police.

He had entered the pharmacy through a window after using a wooden plank to prise open the metal bars, according to police.

He took “approximately 300 diazepam tablets” and had concealed more tablets elsewhere on his person, the police said.

The local fire rescue team was called to the scene to help Mr Mckay out of the pharmacy. An ambulance was also called to assist him “due to the large quantity of drugs [he had] taken”, the police added.

Siraj Geloo, owner and director of Geloo Brothers pharmacy, said that Mr Mckay was a regular patient.

“We just feel he really needs some help,” he told C+D today (April 21).
