An initial 54 items received concessionary prices for December, and were announced last month (December 29).

The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC) said it is "pleased" that December's prices have been finalised, in time to be considered alongside December’s payments.

However, "once again many are lower than we had sought", PSNC director of pharmacy funding Mike Dent said.

Last month, contractors said they were "sickened" by the final 53 price concessions announced for November prescriptions, which did not include the much-requested felodipine.

Reacting to the December prices on Twitter yesterday, Cumbria pharmacist Ben Merriman said: "We'll now be paid £11.16 for a box of bicalutamide 50mg tablets. Is that a fair or reasonable reimbursement given that we can't refuse to dispense them, and that the cheapest we can get them for is £119.79 a box?"
