Flexipharm Austrading launches Arsenic Trioxide Phebra for leukaemia
Manufacturer Flexipharm Austrading has launched Arsenic Trioxide Phebra, an injection for treating acute promyelocytic leukaemia.
The hospital-only medicine contains 10mg arsenic trioxide in a 10ml glass vial, Flexipharm Austrading announced this month (May 20).
The product is the first generic arsenic trioxide injection to be launched in the UK, the manufacturer continued.
The National Institute for health and Care Excellence (Nice) recommends using arsenic trioxide with all-trans-retinoic acid for patients at low-to-intermediate risk of acute promyelocytic leukaemia.
Nice also recommends it for those with relapsed or refractory acute promyelocytic leukaemia after they have had a retinoid and chemotherapy.
Flexipharm Austrading director Michael Clark said: “The vial presentation is important as it removes the very real risk of injuries when opening glass ampoules.”
The NHS price for Arsenic Trioxide Phebra is £2,700 for one pack of 10 vials.
