The packaging for both creams was switched last month from a 500g pump to a 500ml airless pump dispenser, which Galen said would take up less shelf space.

The lighter and “less clinical-looking” pump dispensers may also be more appealing to patients, though both products have the same ingredients, Galen said.

Galen claimed the Exocream and Myribase 500ml pumps have a “significantly lower NHS price” than equivalent E45 Cream and Doublebase Gel products.

The manufacturer prices are £3.99 for one 500ml Exocream pump dispenser and £4.66 for one 500ml Myribase pump dispenser.
