Gilead recalls Viread batches after manufacturing fault
Clinical Manufacturer is concerned that an equipment fault has led to fragments of silicone gaskets entering certain batches of the antiviral tablets
Gilead Sciences Limited has recalled batches of its antiviral tablets over fears they could contain silicone rubber.
The manufacturer was concerned that an equipment fault in the manufacturing process had led to fragments of silicone gaskets entering two batches of Viread (tenofovir) 245mg film-coated tablets, the MHRA said yesterday (March 6).
Pharmacists should quarantine the batches and return them to the wholesaler, the MHRA said.
The tablets are used for the treatment of HIV and chronic hepatitis.
