GPhC rolling register an admin burden warns NPA
A rolling register allowing pharmacists to sign up to the GPhC at any time during the year will be an administrative headache, the NPA has warned.
The system will see pharmacists forgetting to pay their retention fees, the NPA has warned in its response to a consultation of the GPhC fees for 2011.
NPA policy manager Margaret Pycke said: “The measures will cause administrative problems for all and are likely to lead to pharmacists inadvertently failing to pay their subscription in time.”
She added: “Employers will have to be constantly checking that all their staff are registered with GPhC.”
The NPA urged the GPhC to raise these concerns with the government and press for a legislative change.
The NPA pledged to lobby alongside the GPhC for the necessary change.
The NPA also challenged the GPhC rationale for introducing a higher fee for pharmacists than technicians in its consultation response.
The NPA called for more transparency in how they GPhC had calculated its fee structure.
Specifically, the NPA called for the GPhC to demonstrate how it had hit upon £16.9m as the fee needed to cover expenditure and more detail on the value of the GPhC’s proposed reserve.
