'Too early' to say how Brexit will impact EU pharmacists
Current arrangements for EU pharmacists already registered or training in Britain still apply at present, the GPhC says
It is still unclear how Brexit could affect the way pharmacy is regulated in Britain, the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) has said.
It is currently "too early to say what, if any" legal implications the UK's vote to leave the European Union will have, the regulator's chief executive Duncan Rudkin said yesterday (June 28).
As such, "current arrangements" for EU pharmacists already registered or training in Britain – or seeking to do so – "remain in force", he stressed.
"This will continue to be the position unless and until the law is changed,” he added.
At present, all pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who have a pharmacist qualification from the European Economic area (EEA) are able to apply to join the GPhC's register.
According to the GPhC, a total of 3,554 pharmacists have joined its register through the EU/EEA route.
