Group behind Tesco boycott may join forces with PDA
The group planning to boycott Tesco over locum rates could be joining forces with the Pharmacists’ Defence Association (PDA), C+D has learned.
One Voice Pharmacy, a group of 4,000 pharmacists which is organising a two-week boycott of the supermarket in September, has received an email from the PDA “to say they’d like to come and meet with us”, the group’s co-founder Tanzeel Younas told C+D last week (August 18).
The PDA “thinks the work we do is brilliant”, and the two organisations will “see what we can achieve together”, Mr Younas added.
The PDA was unavailable for comment at time of going to press.
One Voice Pharmacy told C+D last week that its latest initiative, to boycott Tesco between September 10-24, is a response to the lack of an adequate explanation by the supermarket for its new rates of locum pay.
The PDA launched its own campaign to highlight the plight of locums in September 2015. Despite this, Mr Younas told C+D in July 2016 that One Voice Pharmacy had been created because some pharmacists feel “the PDA hasn’t done enough to tackle falling locum rates”.
