James Waldron scoops New Editor prize at journalism awards
C+D editor James Waldron picked up the 2018 Fiona Macpherson New Editor trophy at the British Society of Magazine Editors' (BSME) talent awards last night.
Mr Waldron was handed his prize by writer and Sunday Times best-selling author Dolly Alderton and BSME 2018 chair Alex Mead at a ceremony in London, which aims to “reward the brilliance of all-too-often overlooked members of editorial and digital teams”.
Mr Waldron was appointed editor of C+D in December 2015 and oversaw the brand’s transition from print to online, implementing a digital-first strategy to bring new life to C+D’s motto – informing, championing and supporting community pharmacy.
His entry highlighted C+D’s live reporting from the High Court, during the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee and National Pharmacy Association’s legal challenge against the funding cuts in England, and his appearance on BBC Radio 4 to discuss the effects of exclusive medicines distribution arrangements.
The judges said Mr Waldron “should be applauded for his innovation and tangible results”.
C+D was also nominated for ‘Best Content Idea – Digital’ for its crime in pharmacies investigation – which included requesting information from every police force in the UK to build a map of the crime taking places in readers' places of work.
