MHRA warns about misprinted syringes
Practice The MHRA is warning about misaligned labels on several batches of syringes, which could lead to incorrect dosing.
The MHRA has issued a warning about misaligned labels on several batches of syringes which could lead to incorrect dosing, if the entire contents of the syringes are not used.
The labels, on three types of syringes containing adrenaline, amiodarone and ephedrine hydrochloride, and supplied by Aurum Pharmaceuticals (trading as Martindale Pharma), are aligned too close to the end of the barrel, which gives the impression that the syringe contains more than the correct volume, the MHRA warned in a drug alert yesterday (April 29).
The syringes contain the correct amount, it said, but the misalignment could lead to incorrect dosing if the entire contents are not used. The pre-filled syringes from the affected batches should be used with caution, the MHRA warned.
The medicines watchdog has identified the affected three types of pre-filled syringe – manufactured by Aurum Pharmaceuticals Limited – as:
● Adrenaline 1mg/10ml (batches 5000879 to 5000964, first distributed February 6, 2013),
● Amiodarone 30mg/ml (batches 5000610 to 5000870, first distributed November 28, 2012)
● Ephedrine hydrochloride 3mg/ml (batches 5000452 to 5000846, first distributed December 22, 2011).
