Mike Holden steps down as NPA chief executive

Mr Holden said his four years with the NPA had been an "enjoyable challenge" and had left the organisation in a "stronger position to support members"

Mike Holden has stepped down as chief executive of the NPA after four years to "pursue other opportunities", the representative body announced today (October 31).

Mr Holden said his time at the NPA had been an "enjoyable challenge" and he believed the organisation was now in a "stronger position to support [its] members". He would remain focused on "enhancing the sustainable role of community pharmacy in improving the health and wellbeing of the population", he added.

The NPA told C+D they did not know who would succeed Mr Holden and its board would "take the opportunity to reflect [on its] future leadership requirements". It could not provide any further details about the reasons for Mr Holden's departure.

Mr Holden replaced John Turk as NPA chief executive in 2010, after being chief officer of Hampshire & Isle of Wight LPC. Under his leadership, the NPA narrowed its full membership exclusively to independent pharmacists and promoted the expansion of the Healthy Living Pharmacy initiative.

NPA board chairman Ian Strachan said Mr Holden had presided over a period of "significant change". "I would like to thank Mike for his dedication and contribution to the NPA over the past four years. We wish him well in the future," he said.
