Naproxen switched from POM to P

Naproxen 250mg tablets have been switched from prescription only (POM) to pharmacy (P), the MHRA has announced. The tablets, manufactured by Bayer Healthcare, will be available under the brand name Feminax Ultra, for the treatment of period pain (primary dysmenorrhoea) in women aged between 15 and 50 years. The medicine provides an alternative to ibuprofen, the only other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug currently available over-the-counter to treat period pain. The MHRA said the approval tied in with a broader agency initiative of widening availability of medicines for women’s health.RPSGB welcomed the reclassification, and said this type of switch was “good for both the public and the pharmacy profession.”
