Novartis recalls cough and cold medicines over manufacturing fears

Novartis is recalling batches of its cough and cold medicines over fears that some could contain pieces of plastic.
The manufacturer was concerned that a fault in the manufacturing of the tamper seals of its Tixylix medicines had allowed plastic to fall into the liquid, the MHRA said.
There was no evidence that people had been affected, but patients were being asked to return the medicines as a precautionary measure, the medicines watchdog said.

The warning comes a day after Boots recalled more batches of its cough and cold medicines over similar fears. Boots first issued a recall of five batches in November. "If people have bought Tixylix we ask that they check the batch number on the bottle label next to the expiry date to see if it is one of the batches being recalled," said Adam Burgess, head of the MHRA's defective medicines reporting centre. If patients were concerned or had any questions they should contact Novartis on 0800 854 100 or visit tixylix.co.uk, the MHRA said. |
