Omnicell has launched an automated medication management system to improve patient safety in care homes.

The medicines adherence packaging provider launched Omnicell eMAR to reduce the risks associated with using a paper medication administration record (MAR) sheet in a care home.

Omnicell eMAR system gathers information, provides prompts and gives managers real-time medication administration data to help them be sure that the correct dose has been given to the correct resident.

Omnicell managing director Paul O’Hanlon said the automated medication management system would help to drive efficiencies, reduce unnecessary medication wastage and improve patient safety in UK care homes.

“The time staff spend checking in drugs when they arrive from the pharmacy is also significantly reduced and this time can be redirected back into face-to-face resident care,” Mr O’Hanlon said.

He added that Omnicell’s initial training would leave staff feeling confident in their new medication management system.
