The Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD) came into force on February 9, and requires community pharmacies to verify and decommission medicines before dispensing to patients.

Pharmacies that have yet to comply with the EU’s medicines scanning law “can now do so in just a few clicks”, according to systems provider OPTEL.

OPTEL Certa software “is a cloud-based product that provides healthcare professionals with an immediate solution to comply with the FMD”, the company said.

Korina Fischer, vice president of healthcare at OPTEL, said: “We understand that many pharmacies still require a [FMD compliance] solution. That’s why we decided to make Certa available for purchase online. Anything that makes it easier for the industry to quickly adapt to the new regulations is worth the investment.”

For a single pharmacy, the cost is €30 (£26.31) per month, plus €99 (£86.81) for setup charges in the first year.
