Osteoporosis home test kit analyses nail clippings
UK diagnostics company Crescent has launched an at-home screening test for osteoporosis.
Osentia – available on the Superdrug website from last week – uses a laser-based technology to analyse nail clippings and give an indication of overall bone health.
The non-invasive assessment gives a picture of an individual’s likelihood of developing fragility fractures, a sign of the disease which affects three million people in the UK, Crescent said.
The results are provided in seven days and give a customer’s personalised risk assessment with ratings of either low, moderate or high, the company added.
The launch is being supported by a national media campaign, with articles in newspapers, women’s magazines, websites and broadcast media. The test will be available to all pharmacies from February 2017, Crescent added.
Osentia retails for £39.99.
