Pharmacies battle to stay open despite heavy snow
Pharmacies have overcome delivery problems and staff shortages to remain open despite up to 40cm of snowfall overnight.Pharmacist Cyril Siou, of Williams pharmacy in Southampton, said the snow was as bad as he had ever seen but the pharmacy was still busy. However, some wholesalers had been unable to deliver to his pharmacy because of the poor road conditions, he added. The weather was also causing havoc in Wiltshire, where many rural roads were too treacherous to use. Lloydspharmacy pharmacist Jon Phillips told C+D he had rung staff, advising them not to attempt to come in. However, he said his pharmacy was still open for business. "I'm down to 20 per cent staff at the moment, so I'm doing eight or nine things," he added. The Met Office forecast says that the snow will ease in some areas tonight, but that showers may continue into next week.
