Family pays tribute to former NAWP president and ‘proud pharmacist’

The family of former National Association of Women Pharmacists (NAWP) president Barbara Maude has said she was a “proud pharmacist” throughout her life.

Ms Maude’s family confirmed to C+D that she “died peacefully in her sleep” last Wednesday (September 19).

Born in Woolwich, London in 1929, she secured a scholarship to attend public school Roedean in East Sussex, and went on to study pharmacy at the University of Brighton.

She married another pharmacist, Cyril Maude, in 1953, who she met while working at a Boots branch in central London. Ms Maude’s work then took her to Long Grove psychiatric hospital in Epsom, where she ran the pharmacy department.

The couple moved to Nuneaton, Warwickshire in the 1960s, where Ms Maude worked as a locum pharmacist. They adopted a son – Ian – who described his mother as a “proud pharmacist”.

The NAWP remembers her as an active member who had executive positions with the organisation between 1994 and 2006, including serving as president from 1998-2000.

Ms Maude also channelled her energy into the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), and in 2002 the RPS awarded her a certificate for long service at branch and regional level.

Through her work with the RPS and NAWP, she organised a number of conferences and events specifically for women pharmacists.

“I will always be very proud of her,” Ian told C+D.

The family is accepting cards and messages, and invites Ms Maude’s friends and ex-colleagues to attend the funeral service in Nuneaton on Saturday (September 29).

If you would like to pass on your wishes, please email Ian Maude on: [email protected].
