Nine out of 10 pharmacists say sector slow to adopt new technology

Almost nine out of 10 pharmacists (87%) who responded to a survey by automation provider Omnicell UK said the sector has been slow to adopt new technology.

Of 63 pharmacists who responded to the survey – which ran from April-May – there was an “over-riding consensus” that automation within pharmacy could improve patient services, Omnicell claimed.

More than 70% of those polled said automation would provide them with additional confidence in patient safety and stock re-ordering, and give them more face-to-face time with patients.

The results have been published as part of Omnicell’s We Are Automation campaign to raise awareness of the importance of the use of technology to improve patient safety and support pharmacies.

Omnicell UK and Ireland managing director Paul O’Hanlon said: “It’s heartening to see that looking to the future there could be an increased focus on harnessing new technology, helping community pharmacies to survive in an ever-challenging market.”
